Oman Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) has announced that six companies have submitted their bids for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract of the Sohar Refinery expansion project.Musab al Mahruqi, chief executive of Orpic, said, “We are in the final evaluation stage for the Sohar Refinery expansion project and we hope that the contract will be awarded shortly.
“We are following the tender board process and hope that it does not take too much time. This is a strategically important project for Orpic and the country.”
Orpic is planning to enhance Sohar Refinery’s processing capacity by 60,000 bpd to 1,76,000 bpd.
The Omani tender website showed that Samsung Engineering is the lowest bidder at US$1.9bn, followed by GS Engineering’s offer of US$2.1bn.On the Muscat-Sohar pipeline project, Mahruqi said, “We are hoping to tender the EPC contract for the first phase in the next few weeks. We hope the start work by the first quarter of 2014.”
The 280km pipeline project is expected to cost between US$200mn to US$250mn.
