The Kuwaiti Cabinet's technical body for the review of development projects and initiatives signed an agreement with banking group BNP Paribas for consultancy services for a power and water desalination plant project on Thursday.
In a press statement on the occasion, the body's director Adel Al-Roumi said the contract is valued at KD 1.4 million (USD 4.9 million), according to Kuwait News agency.
He pointed out that Khairan project will produce 2,500 megawatts and 125 million imperial gallons of water.
"The mega project is part of the Kuwait five-year development plan," Al-Roumi said, adding that it will be implemented through the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) system.He underlined the importance of the project to meet the steadily growing demand for electricity and portable water.
