Kuwait receives bids to rebuild old metal souq.

Kuwaiti contractors have submitted bids to rebuild an old metal souq in the capital on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, a local newspaper reported.A number of local companies have offered to renovate Souq Al-Safafeer as an investment for 10 years before turning it over to the General Industry Authority, the Arabic language daily Al-Seyassah said.

It said the project involves rebuilding and renovation of the traditional market to include new shops, restaurants and other facilities. The paper said several firms are bidding for the project, which followed a decision to demolish the market that was built in 1958 as one of Kuwait's popular metalwork and handicraft places.
