Indian construction conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won a contract for the construction of Adam Air base in the Sultanate of Oman.The deal was awarded by the Ministry of Defense and the work will be carried out by L&T subsidiary, L&T Oman.L&T said the work at the Al Dakhiliya Governorate air base was won against stiff international competition.

Subrahmanyan, member of the Board and Sr. EVP (Infrastructure and Construction), L&T, said: “We have been gradually establishing our credentials in the Middle East and, especially in Oman, as a construction organisation of calibre with the successful execution of many prestigious projects including the Salalah International Airport.
“This order that we have won is a reaffirmation of our capability to deliver projects of magnitude and high criticality with superior quality within stipulated timelines.”The award follows shortly after L&T announced it had won a contract from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to build a high-voltage double circuit transmission line in eastern Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, L&T is reported to have put in the lowest bid to build a passenger terminal and other support facilities at Sohar Airport. The terminal building at Sohar Airport is designed to handle half a million passengers per year.
The company submitted an $89.7mn (OMR34.54mn) bid, which was 23.9% lower than the closest competing bid from Carillion Alawi at $117.9mn (OMR45.38mn). It is already building an expansion to Salalah Airport in Salalah in a joint venture with Galfar.
In July, L&T won a $94.2mn (OMR36.27mn) contract tobuild a passenger terminal at Duqm airport. The company was the lowest bidder among three companies that submitted bids for the project.
