Modon partnered with several stakeholders to carry out this project, including Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, Abu Dhabi Civil Defense, the National Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, emergency response teams, and other committees.
Precautionary measures for the world record demolition included evacuation of the area surrounding the towers; provision of ambulances, emergency, and fire and rescue vehicles; as well as the confirmation of the civil defense’s readiness with high responsiveness.
The safety procedure included a review and maintenance of all equipment and mechanisms that would be on-site to carry out the demolition in accordance with the highest security and safety standards.
The official Guinness World Records™ adjudicator, Danny Hickson, said: “As the global authority of record-breaking achievements, it’s a pleasure to witness this controlled demolition and verify it as the largest of its kind. This monumental achievement promotes a new beginning for the Abu Dhabi skyline making room for new vibrant developments and designs.
“Demolishing a structure of this scale and magnitude is a highly skilled specialisation which requires a level of expertise held only by a finite few. We congratulate those who are involved in the process for their safe and professional work. They are now Officially Amazing™.”
The demolition of the four-building Mina Plaza towers, located at the Fisherman’s Wharf, is a part of Phase 2 of the Zayed Harbour Development Project in the UAE capital.
As part of its comprehensive renovation plan to redevelop key areas of Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport has assigned the implementation of the project to Modon as one of the project developers to construct a new tourist landmark.
Commenting on the record, the director of delivery at Modon, Ahmed Al Shaikh Al Zaabi, said: “This historic milestone for Abu Dhabi reaffirms the capital’s ability to execute mega-projects safely. We are privileged to be appointed as one of the developers tasked to transform key areas of Mina Zayed and are delighted to play a vital role in the redevelopment of such an iconic area etched in history.”
