Attention !!! Central Bank of Kuwait warns over virus – ‘Bad Rabbit’ spread by e-mail

The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) has warned Kuwaiti banks about the ‘Bad Rabbit’ virus, which hit computers in Russia, Ukraine and various parts of Europe days ago, causing them to be encrypted and disrupted, reports Al-Anba daily.

Bad Rabbit disrupts the ability to use computers and access files and spreads mainly through e-mails that deceive the user by encouraging the download and operation of malicious attachments.

According to banking sources, banks have called on employees to take all precautionary measures against the virus by not opening anonymous files on personal e-mail, updating antivirus programs and regularly backing up files.

Banks also have advised their employees to be aware of suspicious emails, and not to install or download any computer programs or mobile applications from unreliable sources. The sources explained the infection of this virus is done by running the user the virtual file (exe) received by the user via e-mail, to update the Adobe Flash Player.

The ‘Bad Rabbit’ virus is like ‘Wannacry’ and ‘Petya’ which attacked computer systems in many parts of the world earlier this year, but it is not yet known if this new malicious program will be able to spread further. A few days ago, computer users in different parts of Europe were surprised by the appearance of anonymous messages on their computer screens asking for a $350 ransom in electronic currency.

According to the Kaspersky Lab, Russia appeared to be a major target of malicious code. Several countries, including Ukraine and Germany, have also been infected with the virus. Microsoft said this time the virus was not a security error on the part of the security system, but because of the user’s response to the messages appearing on the Internet, the lack of adequate protection systems for the devices used but all security precautions have been taken after the previous attacks. So far, the impact of the new virus is limited, not by the power of the Wanna cry virus.
