Egypt’s Jawad Nabulsi has been named the world’s most influential young Arab, according to a new ranking published by Arabian Business on Sunday.

The entrepreneur, humanitarian and activist topped the magazine’s ‘100 under 40’ list, beating Kuwait’s Bader Al Kharafi and Qatar’s Hassan Al Thawadi into second and third place, respectively.

Nabulsi, 33, is the founder of Nebny Foundation, one of Egypt’s most prominent non-government organisations. The entity initially worked to provide medical assistance to those injured in the country’s uprisings in 2011, but has since been aiding some Egypt’s poorest people, providing with micro-loans, education and business advice.The foundation has helped over 140,000 people over the last four years.

Second place in the list went to Bader Al Kharafi, 37, who is one of the heads of $8bn Kuwaiti conglomerate MA Al Kharafi & Sons. Al Kharafi is also vice chairman of Zain Group and a board member for INJAZ.


The man tasked with delivering the 2022 World Cup for Qatar was ranked in third; 37-year-old Hassan Al Thawadi is the secretary general of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, as well as being general counsel at the Qatar Investment Authority.

The UAE’s Khaldoon Al Mubarak (39), who runs Abu Dhabi investment fund Mubadala, as well as English Premier League team Manchester City, was fourth in the list, followed by Emirati media boss Noura Al Kaabi (36).

 Other names to make the top 10 included Fahd Al Rasheed (37), who runs the world’s biggest construction project, King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia, and 33-year-old Islamic music star Maher Zain.

The UAE was the most featured country on the list, with 24 entries counting the Gulf state as their country of origin. In second place was Lebanon, with 15 entries, followed by Palestine (12), and Egypt and Saudi Arabia (both 10).
