19 October 2011 marked the ground breaking for the 433,847 sq m project, which will have 260,000 sq m of gross leasable area upon completion. Popular Al-Futtaim franchise brand IKEA will also form part of Doha Festival City’s offering. The ground breaking for IKEA occurred in October 2011 and the 32,000+ sq m store is due for completion in Q4 2012. The remaining elements of Doha Festival City are due for completion by Q4 2014.

Doha Festival City is owned and developed by Bawabat Al-Shamal Real Estate Company (BASREC), the parent company which is supplying the land to construct this iconic development. BASREC comprises shareholders including Al-Futtaim Real Estate Services, Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) and private Qatari companies.
