Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) will soon invite bids for a project to build a new city for expatriate workers in Kuwait.The city, to be developed in the Al Jahra governorate in the north of the country, will accommodate nearly 20,000 laborers, said a report attributed to the state news agency KUNA.
“The ‘Al Jahra labor city’ would be the first such project to be offered as a joint partnership with the private sector,” stated Kuwait’s Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Mohammed Al Jabri. The project would be completed in 2021, he added.Under the terms, Kuwait Municipality will be responsible for providing water, electricity, sewage and roads infrastructure connecting to the project.
The project winner will handle design and finance and build, operate, maintain and transfer the venture, which will come under the country’s public-private partnership law.A public joint stock company will also be established for the project, with the successful private investor holding at least 26% of the shares.
South Jahra Labour City will comprise residential areas, commercial and neighborhood services, community and municipal and utility services with a total land area of more than 100ha.
