Around 300 guests were evacuated from a Marriott Hotel in Jeddah following the outbreak of a blaze on the second floor of the building. The hotel’s fire alarm system reportedly worked well and aided firefighters in the evacuation process, according to Col. Saeed Sarhan, a spokesman from Saudi Civil Defence.
Sarhan said the fire started inside a health club but was extinguished quickly by the large team of firefighters attending the scene.Six squads of firefighters, an ambulance, and a fire truck rushed to the hotel once the alarm was raised.
No one was injured in the blaze and all guests and workers returned to the hotel after the fire was doused and the electricity was back on.“We have opened an investigation to find out the cause of the fire,” Col. Sarhan said.
