GCC women’s wealth estimated at $224bn.

foto_115_975

Kuwait Financial Centre “Markaz” has recently published a report titled “When GCC Women Invest: An Underserviced Market”. Based on the report’s proprietary calculations which takes into account the inheritance law, GCC women’s high net worth market is currently worth about $224 billion and accounts for 20.2 percent of the total wealth; that’s more than the Japan, where women controls 14 percent of the wealth.

Yet the report notes that most investment products and opportunities were designed for male investors. “Markaz” expects GCC women’s contribution to wealth to grow by 15 percent during the next 10 years due to several factors including the increasing labor participation of women as well as participation in business and the increasing capital spending in GCC countries.

According to the report, by 2020 women of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar are expected to see the largest growth in wealth by 27.3 percent and 23.3 percent respectively. Kuwait and Qatar have the highest women labor participation rate among GCC nationals, this coupled with a relatively liberal stance on women empowerment (nationals) is expected to contribute to a sustainable growth rate in women wealth.

That been said, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will take the lead in wealth creation of $10.5 billion and $15.79 billion respectively by 2020. The report explains that low women participation rate in the first oil boom riches in GCC countries during the 1970’s was due to the generating wealth, while women managed the house hold.

Therefore, investment products were constricted to men who based on several research polling tend to be more risk takers, have higher stock turnover velocity and have more conviction in their decisions. However, the societal picture during the new millennium has become more colorful as social dynamics evolved and women started entering the workforce.

As GCC women became empowered and family dynamics changed, the idea of managing the legacy based on age and gender began to decline in popularity, ushering a new client base for money managers – GCC Women Investors. Referring to global polls, the report highlights the high dissatisfaction level among women with various financial services, noting that 62 percent -73 percent are dissatisfied on the quality of service and the products offered to them.

The issue is rampant in financial advice segment and insurance segment. The report also captures the differences between genders when it comes to investment styles in GCC countries. Although actual investment style might differ based on education level, marital status and age, women in general tend to be more risk averse when it comes to investments, while men seek higher returns and assume higher risks.

Do u want to Build a Home on the Moon?? Please hurry up..

Want to Make a house on the Moon

If you want to build a home on the moon please read this interesting story. Please collect your money and be ready for travel.

Foster + Partners is part of a consortium set up by the European Space Agency(ESA) to explore the possibilities of 3D printing to construct lunar habitations, the architect has announced in a statement.

Addressing the challenges of transporting materials to the moon, the study is investigating the use of lunar soil, known as regolith, as building matter.

The practice has designed a lunar base to house four people, which can offer protection from meteorites, gamma radiation and high temperature fluctuations.

The base is first unfolded from a tubular module that can be transported by space rocket. An inflatable dome then extends from one end of this cylinder to provide a support structure for construction. Layers of regolith are then built up over the dome by a robot-operated 3D printer to create a protective shell.

To ensure strength while keeping the amount of binding “ink” to a minimum, the shell is made up of a hollow closed cellular structure similar to foam. The geometry of the structure was designed by Foster + Partners in collaboration with consortium partners – it is groundbreaking in demonstrating the potential of 3D printing to create structures that are close to natural biological systems.

Simulated lunar soil has been used to create a 1.5 tonne mockup and 3D printing tests have been undertaken at a smaller scale in a vacuum chamber to echo lunar conditions. The planned site for the base is at the moon’s southern pole, where there is near perpetual sunlight on the horizon.

The consortium includes Italian space engineering firm Alta SpA, working with Pisa-based engineering university Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.Monolite UK supplied the D-Shape printer and developed a European source for lunar regolith stimulant, which has been used for printing all samples and demonstrators.

A New Era of Construction,Buildings will Produce Energy for themselves.

Algae-tower London

Algae-covered tower proposed for London

UK architect Dave Edwards has conceived an energy-harvesting tower in London that is covered in algae.Designed for a site in the City of London’s Square Mile, the conceptual mixed-use tower would produce its own energy and clean water.

An outer ‘green wall’ of algae would absorb CO2 emissions and harvest bio-methane for conversion into heat and power.

The building’s skin would be fed by waste biomass while waste water would be recycled through the algae. The skin would also grow plants that would yield food for the inhabitants of the tower.

A ground source heat pump would store summer heat and enable surplus heat from the waste biomass to be circulated through the tower in the winter.

MOE Headquarters,A new beautiful Building in Kuwait….

Design Concept:

The MOE Headquarters Building uses an Arabian Gulf sailing vessel, as its design metaphor. This imagery evokes the tradition of Kuwait, with its rich history of fishing, sea trading, and shipbuilding.

The Dhow concept is manifested as two curved, intersecting buildings coming to rest on the new, lush MOE site. The resulting interior is dramatic, and includes a striking light-filled Atrium with soaring ceilings and sinuous water features. The space is animated by flying bridges, moving elevators and electronic imagery which communicates the MOE mission.

Site Location & Arrival:

The new MOE Headquarters Building is located in the South Surra Government Zone. This area was originally designated by the government to relocate the major ministries away from Kuwait City, thereby easing congestion and creating a better work environment for employees.

The site is on the northwestern corner of Street 206 intersection with Street 400. It is linked with King Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Street, and the Sixth Ring Motorway via two major collector roads (Street 400 and Street 401) which bound the South Surra Government zone from the east and west.

A spacious arrival area at the southern end of the building accommodates visitors and employees who are dropped off at the entry. A VIP drop off area, lobby, and small garage are located at northeast end of the ground floor, overlooking an open space with trees and other foliage.

Architectural, Structure & MEP Design:

The MOE Headquarters Building is comprised of two curved, gracefully shaped glass and metal buildings which rest on a two-story base clad stone. The building materials – glass, metal, and stone were selected for their elegance, timelessness, and durability. The buildings (the metaphorical “Dhows”) are two different heights – one is 9 stories, the other 11 stories. Both lean gently outward from the stone base, giving the impression the structure is floating above the land.

This upper portion of the building is clad with a combination of silver/gray transparent and opaque glass windows that are screened from the sun with an external system of horizontal metal louvers. The density of this exo-skeleton of louvers varies depending upon the face orientation of the building and the impact of the intruding rays of the sun. The louvers follow the long curved facades of the building’s eastern and western sides. The north and south ends of each building wing are also sloped outward from bottom to top and contain internal ceramic fritting to provide for solar protection and shading.

The Main building is primarily concrete above ground with three basements for parking and housing an electro mechanical services area. The tower is oval in shape with two curved segments joined with architecturally exposed steel space frame structural bridges. The exterior of the building tapers out, thus the outer columns step out vertically on each floor by 500 mm. The mechanical systems in the building are controlled and monitored by a building management system consisting of a central processing unit and a number of local intelligent stand-alone stations linked by a communications network.

Dubai to build eco-friendly largest mosque by 2013

Eco Friendly largest Mosque in Dubai.

Eco Friendly largest Mosque in Dubai.

The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) is in the process of reviewing seven bids for what will be the largest mosque in Dubai, to be located near the Clock Tower Roundabout in Dubai’s Deira.

The 4,180m2 mosque will be construted on a 9,755m2 landscaped plot at a cost of $6.8m, and play host to 3,500 worshipers, all using 15-19% less energy and water, and no hazardous building materials.

The construction of the mosque is in line with the UAE leadership’s vision towards the conservation of resources, environment protection and the adoption of green practices,

The mosque will incorporate green building technologies such as solar panels to heat water for ablution and the Imam’s house, water recycling plants to reuse the water for irrigation, and a roof garden for heat insulation.

The construction plan, which was drafted by a UK environmental consultant will specifically avoid asbestos and polystyrene.

Yahoo again changed its CEO,Next One is Google Specialist.

Yahoo New CEO

Yahoo New CEO,Marissa Mayer

Mayer which is  one of Google’s first employees – is now arguably the most prominent woman in Silicon Valley and a rare female CEO at one of America’s largest firms the “Yahoo”.

In the past year, Yahoo! has racked up five bosses, two of them interim chiefs who filled in after dismal ends to stints by Scott Thompson and Carol Bartz. The hire of Mayer came as a surprise after many reports said interim chief Ross Levinsohn had a lock on the top job.The appointment “signals a renewed focus on product innovation to drive user experience and advertising revenue,” Yahoo! said in a statement.

In an interview Mayer said,“I’m incredibly excited to start my new role at Yahoo! tomorrow,“I am honored and delighted to lead Yahoo!, one of the Internet’s premier destinations for more than 700 million users,” Mayer said.

Danny Sullivan of the website Search Engine Land called 37-year-old Mayer a promising choice for Yahoo! chief.“She is smart, she is driven, she knows the Internet space better than virtually anyone out there,” he said.

“If anyone has a shot at doing something good with Yahoo! she is one of the best picks… She took Google as a search engine to this huge success that it has. She is very focused on details, very meticulous.”

Marc Andreessen, the co-founder of Netscape and head of a venture capital firm, said the news is “great for the Valley” and “it’s a big statement on Yahoo!’s part of go with a product-centric person.”

It can make Yahoo! a product innovator again,” he told a tech conference organized by Fortune magazine in Aspen, Colorado. “There have been very few turnarounds in tech, until Apple proved you could do it.”

At Google, Mayer was responsible for local and geographical products including Google Maps, Google Earth, Zagat, Street View, and local search for desktop and mobile.

“She’s a great product person, very innovative and a real perfectionist who always wants the best for users,” .“Yahoo! has made a good choice and I am personally very excited to see another woman become CEO of a technology company.”Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt said of Mayer

She joined Google in 1999 as its 20th employee and is credited with a decade of leading many of Google’s most recognizable products, including its flagship search product and iconic homepage.

She also managed some of Google’s most successful innovations, launching more than 100 features and products including image, book and product search, toolbar, Google News, and Gmail, according to the Yahoo! statement.
