Luxury Mercedes-Benz Style Coupe Concept

Recently Mercedes Benz displayed  its latest creation during Beijing International Auto Exhibition 2012 –  The all new “Style Coupe Concept” . The production-ready sporty executive coupe features a two-liter, four-cylinder, turbo-charged engine that pushes out 211 hp and the automaker’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. According to Mercedes-Benz Design Head Gorden Wagen, the new concept “sets a new benchmark for avant-garde design in the executive (compact coupé) segment.” He adds that its proportions, fluid surfaces and sculptural lines represent their “dynamic design idiom.” But the concept not only sets a benchmark for design, but also for in-car technology, believing that the future “lies with cloud computing.”

New Concept Sports Car Porsche 918 Spyder

Porsche represented concept sports car 918 Spyder at Motor Show in Geneva. The car is built on the platform of a racing Porsche RS Spider and is powered by both a 500-horsepower V8 and a pair of electric motors. The E-Drive mode is for running the car under electric power alone, with a range of up to 25 km or 16 miles. Battery power unit can be recharged from household electrical outlets. The concept can theoretically reach 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and nip 198 mph on the high end. Maximum speed is 320 kilometers per hour. A high-tech exterior of lightweight materials is complemented by the latest in Porsche interior design and features, indicating the car is in fact headed down a production path despite its current concept-car status.

Project Utopia is circular in shape, measures 330 feet in diameter, and spans 11 decks of living space. “The top decks are covered with a glass canopy, which allows sunlight to filter into the interior. The glass canopy can also be opened when the weather permits, providing fresh air to the top floors. When open, the top floor acts as an outdoor pool deck , complete with central swimming area. The vessel remains stable in choppy waters, thanks to four platform legs that anchor it into place, even during extreme conditions. Each leg has a propeller that allows the island to move at slow speeds in a steady manner. Four helicopter pads provide access to the island via air, and wet docks house boats and jet skis for recreational use. The interior hosts a retail area, a theater, a restaurant area, bars, nightclubs and a casino.”

Land Rover celebrates the production of the one millionth Discovery with a charitable 50-day journey from Birmingham to Beijing ending on 23rd April 2012, aiming to raise £1,000,000 for the IFRC(International Federation of Red Cross and Red crescent). Since the launch of the original Discovery in 1989, the vehicle has gone from strength to strength, winning more than 200 international awards. Today, Discovery 4 is one of the most capable, versatile and refined all-terrain vehicles in the world.

Largest dinosaur fossil discovered in china

Chinese palaeontologists has announced the discovery of the largest Jurassic dinosaur fossil in the country so far, in the northwestern region of Xinjiang.

The fossil remains show it was 35 meters in length, and weighed about 30 tonnes, said professor Sun Ge, head of the expedition team that made the discovery, and deputy executive director of China Research Society of Palaeontology on Sunday.

He told a press conference in Shanshan County, where the fossil was found, that the fossil was discovered in a stratum of the Middle Jurassic Period, about 165 million years ago.

Prior to this, the largest Jurassic dinosaur fossil discovered in China was less than 30 meters in length.

Sun said that palaeontologists are continuing the excavation of the fossil, hoping to unearth a complete skeleton.

He said that team members have also unearthed a tooth fossil which apparently belonged to a carnosaur not far from the herbivorous dinosaur fossil.

“We hope the future excavation will help unveil more evidence to suggest what caused the death of this mammoth creature,” he said.

The expedition team is composed of experts from Jilin University, Shenyang Normal University and Xinjiang Geological Survey Institute. They started the expedition in Shanshan in October last year.
